2026 Kentucky Annual Conference: Lay Delegate Follow-Along Guide

Details
Category: Public Menu

Kentucky Conference Lay Organization · Companion to Conference proceedings

158th Session · Guide and Replays

The Kentucky Annual Conference was established in 1868. Use this guide alongside the 2026 Thirteenth Episcopal District Annual Conference Series Guide and the Kentucky Delegate Guide. The district booklet gives the schedule and proposed names. This page serves as a reference to the 158th Session, held September 23–27, 2026, and helps delegates review the Conference proceedings.

PDFs and page numbers Votes and decisions Agenda at a glance Watch Conference replays Committees and duties

About this guide: This Lay Organization resource helps delegates use the printed 2026 materials. It is not the official Conference record. The printed agenda and proposed committee roster may have changed during the session. Use the adopted Conference record for final actions and appointments. The current Doctrine and Discipline of the A.M.E. Church governs church rules.

Find the Kentucky information quickly

Open the PDFs:

  • 13th Episcopal District Annual Conference Series Guide (PDF) — schedule, locations and proposed rosters.
  • Kentucky Annual Conference Agenda (PDF) — the printed order of business and reports.
  • Our Pastoral Report — Rev. Dr. Walter R. Henry (PDF) — our church’s activities and ministry during the Conference year.

Use the page numbers printed in the 2026 district booklet:

Page 18 · Places and dates

Find the Kentucky host church, Conference site and closing worship site. Check where each gathering meets.

Pages 21–22 · Agenda

Follow the times and order of the business sessions. Record any changes announced by the chair.

Pages 27–30 · People

Find Kentucky officers and committees. This is the printed proposed roster; compare it with the adopted Conference roster.

Page 55 · Questions

Read the Disciplinary Questions in advance so the terms are familiar.

The district booklet also includes leadership and worship material for other conferences. The Kentucky Delegate Guide adds plain-language duties, voting guidance and a quick reference page.

Know who acts and what the action means

Who may vote?

A seated lay member joins deliberations and votes on measures. If the elected lay delegate is absent from the business meeting when a vote is called, the alternate delegate should be seated in that delegate’s place before the vote and may vote once the chair confirms seating within the Conference boundary established after roll call. The elected delegate and alternate do not vote at the same time.

What does the report ask?

Accept means receive the report. Adopt means approve a separate recommendation that needs Conference action. Accepting the Social Action report itself does not require a vote, as clarified for this guide. If a separate recommendation is offered, ask for its exact wording before voting.

Who does this work?

The Board of Examiners reviews ministerial candidates and makes recommendations. Conference Trustees handle property duties. The Judicial Committee and Triers of Appeals have distinct roles under church rules.

What about finances?

The booklet places a finance report on Sunday. The Discipline excerpt supplied for the Delegate Guide requires Conference approval of applicable disbursements at least one day before adjournment. Ask which actions received that earlier approval.

For an individual disciplinary case, use the current Doctrine and Discipline of the A.M.E. Church and the proper Conference officers. A committee’s name on the organization sheet does not itself announce a hearing.

Follow the business in order

Wednesday · opening business

Establish who is seated

After roll call and transfers, listen for the Organization of Conference. Write down the officers and committees as adopted. The Board of Examiners then reports on ministerial candidates; the Conference Trustees report on property matters.

Thursday and Friday

Listen to reports

Thursday includes pastors’ reports and the organization finance report. Friday includes more pastors’ reports, Ministerial Efficiency and ministry reports.

Saturday

Follow youth events

The printed schedule lists the YPD Convention, Youth Explosion worship and RAYAC witness. Check announcements for any change in time or place.

Sunday · Kentucky closing

Record the results

Unfinished business, minutes and the finance report precede ordination and closing worship. Record the resolution and the pastoral appointments announced by the bishop.

Committees: who serves and what they do

These are the proposed 2026 Kentucky members from the district booklet, pages 27–30. Most groups do Conference work; Camp Primm-Simmons representatives serve on a district property committee. The Conference organized at Wednesday’s first business session. Compare this printed list with the adopted roster and any changes announced there, including the elections of the Finance and Judiciary Committees and Conference Trustees. The purposes below come from the Discipline excerpts, earlier Kentucky reports, official organization information, or the committee titles; where an assignment is unclear, ask the chair.
